Optimum cold air supply for network switches integrated into racks

Active routing of cold airflow from the rack front to the fans of the network switches

In rack environments where the supply of cold air is difficult or inadequate, the Geist SwitchAirBox versions GSA2-002 or GSA2-004 with active fans can be used to efficiently cool network switches integrated into racks. Both versions support 1RU or 2RU network switches. They are installed using the SwitchAirBox’s own metal chassis so that the backs of the switches face the front of the rack. Depending on the model, the cold air flowing into the front of the rack is either routed to the fans mounted on the side or to those positioned on the front of the switch and diverted. This ensures that the network switches are always efficiently cooled and prevents overheating and heat-related system malfunctions – even if the racks have front panels and supply of cold air at the front doesn’t have enough power.

Optimum cold air supply for network switches integrated into racks with fans on the side or at the back

With the help of fans, the SwitchAirBox GSA2-002 guides the cold air coming in at the front of the rack to a channel on the right or left side (depending on which side the network switches are installed) of the chassis at a 90° angle so that it can be drawn in by the switch fans, ideally on the side. The warm air is transported from the switches to the centre of the chassis and removed to the warm aisle. The SwitchAirBox GSA2-002 supports all 1RU and 2RU network switches where the cold air flows side-to-back, side-to-front or back-to-front.

Highlights of the SwitchAirbox GSA2-002

  • System with 2 integrated fans to route the cold air at the front to the side in the rack
  • Installation size: 2 rack units
  • Switch compatibility: 1RU or 2RU systems
  • Compatible switch designs with cold airflow from:
    • side-to-back
    • side-to-front
    • back-to-front
    • combination of the designs above
  • Air rate flow: 1.4 cubic meters per minute (48 CFM)
  • Input plug: C14 (cable not included)
  • Ideal for network devices with fans mounted on the side or back
  • Can be installed during operation
  • Optimum supply of cold air for rear-facing network switches
  • Eliminates the need for additional expensive rack cooling systems
  • Fast ROI within just a few month
  • Protects network switches from overheating and failures for racks with front panels

Reliable supply of cold air for network switches integrated in racks with front-mounted fans

The SwitchAirBox GSA2-004 is a metal chassis with two integrated fans that supports all conventional 1RU or two 2RU switches. The cold air coming in at the front is guided with the help of the SwitchAirBox fans via channels on the right and left side of the chassis to the front of the integrated network switch. Here, the cold air is drawn in by the switches’ fans and used to cool the device. This ensures that the network equipment always has the optimum supply of cold air and that the systems are effectively protected against heat-related failures. The SwitchAirBox GSA2-004 supports all 1 and 2RU network switches with cold airflow either from front-to-side or front-to-back.
